Google Outlines Chrome OS Plans

Google Inc. said the first devices running its new Chrome operating system will be available by the end of 2010, as the company gave the first public peek of software that Google hopes will drive usage of Internet applications that include its own services.

Chrome OS is expected to initially run on small low-end laptops—known as netbooks—but Google expects the Chrome operating system will run on a broad range of computers over time, said Sundar Pichai, a Google vice president. He said the company is specifying what hardware features, such as chips and wireless cards, devices should have to run the software.
